The sultana raisins originated in Anatolia, which is now part of Turkey.
The sultana raisins are produced from a variety of seedless grapes which are dried to concentrate their rich flavour. the Ottoman traders were the first to introduce sultanas to Europe. The name “Sultana” comes from the word “Sultan”. Also the humble grape has been decorating the Ottoman tables for many years and has been served to Sultans as a healthy treat. Due to their very high sugar content, sultanas are very sweet and similar in flavor to honey.
